Amorim to become Manchester United’s new head coach, with a €10 million release clause
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will pay a €10 million release clause to appoint Amorim as their new head coach. Sporting CP has confirmed receiving formal notice from Manchester United regarding Amorim’s appointment. Amorim has also agreed to United’s offer and plan.
The 39-year-old Amorim, during his playing career, represented teams such as Belenenses, Benfica, Braga, and Vorskla, and made 14 appearances for the Portuguese national team. After retiring, he began his coaching career with Portuguese club Casa Pia, later taking up roles with Braga’s B team, Braga, and Sporting CP. Since becoming Sporting’s head coach in 2020, Amorim has showcased his coaching talent, leading the team to win two Primeira Liga titles, two Portuguese League Cups, and one Portuguese Super Cup.
In the new Primeira Liga season, Amorim’s team has won all nine matches, scoring 30 goals and conceding only 2. In the Champions League, Sporting remains unbeaten with two wins and one draw from three matches.
