Panathinaikos has officially announced the dismissal of head coach Diego Alonso
Alonso, who previously had disappointing tenures with Uruguay and Sevilla, now faces another setback. Following a 1-1 home draw against league leaders Aris, Panathinaikos decided to part ways with him. Alonso took over the team this summer, and after nine rounds, Panathinaikos has accumulated 13 points, placing them eighth in the Greek Super League and out of European competition spots.
In European play, Alonso led Panathinaikos past Lens to reach the Conference League group stage, but after two games, they have just one point and are in the elimination zone. The official statement from Panathinaikos reads: “Thank you, and best of luck in the future, Coach Alonso.”
