Liverpool send scouts to watch Jeremie Frimpong
Liverpool have kept watch on Jeremie Frimpong with scouts present to watch the right-back target in action at the weekend.
According to TBR, Liverpool scouts watched Jeremie Frimpong in action at the weekend in the Budesliga. The Dutch wing-back is steadily emerging as their first-choice target to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is leaning towards leaving for a new challenge at Real Madrid.
Liverpool are about to enter next summer with some essential ideas on their minds. The Reds could potentially lose Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to Bosman moves when their contracts expire, and should all three leave, they will have a huge task to find replacements.
While Salah and Van Dijk are on the other side of their thirties, Alexander-Arnold is still very young compared to the duo and is widely seen as a more significant loss than those experienced heads. Right now, Liverpool fans might think the right-back is more critical to their long-term future, as they would be sad to see him leave.
Alexander-Arnold’s future is measured differently, as he has won everything at club level with Liverpool. A new challenge at Real Madrid would be appealing, and the right-back is certainly thinking about it, even though he’s yet to make a decision. Madrid are reportedly progressing in background talks, as they are serious about landing him on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool is keeping its options open in the market and has identified a few replacement options. Among those, Jeremie Frimpong seems like a player high on their list, as the Dutchman is a crucial target for the Reds ahead of next summer. He has a reported £33 million release clause, which would make the deal straightforward and open for other clubs to enter the chase.

Real Madrid are also in the chase for Frimpong should they fail in their pursuit of Alexander-Arnold. However, Liverpool will want to put themselves ahead in the chase, and alongside the Spanish giants, their scouts were present at the weekend to watch Frimpong in action in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen.
It’s common for clubs to monitor their reported targets, and Liverpool tends to conduct a thorough evaluation of their targets. Frimpiong does suit their case to replace Alexander-Arnold in the attacking sense, but they will need to find out more about his defensive work.
