Ilkay Gündogan has participated in the first training session of the new year as usual
According to information from "Mundo Deportivo," Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gündogan's head injury is no longer a concern, and he has actively participated in the first training session of the new year.
Barcelona did not take a break during New Year's Day and held an afternoon training session, continuing their preparations for the upcoming match against Las Palmas next Thursday. Gündogan trained normally and is expected to be available for selection by coach Xavi Hernandez in the next game.
The German midfielder had a minor incident during an open training session earlier, where his head was accidentally hit by a dumbbell while doing strength exercises, resulting in a cut and bleeding. As a result, he had to be taken to the hospital, where the wound was stitched. However, it was only a minor injury.
In addition to Gündogan, five youth team players joined the first-team training. Astralaga, Prims, Albert Navarro, Kubati, and Hector Fort participated in the first training session of 2024.
On Tuesday, Barcelona will continue their recovery training. After the training session, the team will engage in the traditional hospital visit, where first-team players and coaching staff members will present gifts to children with illnesses.
