Lionel Messi Discusses Life After Playing: Coaching Not on the Agenda
As Lionel Messi approaches the twilight of his illustrious career, he has begun to reflect on his future beyond professional football. Currently playing for Inter Miami at the age of 38, Messi remains a formidable presence in Major League Soccer, leading in goal contributions for the 2024 season. However, with the inevitability of retirement looming, he has been candid about the path he may take once he hangs up his boots.

In a recent conversation with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on the podcast "433," Messi clarified that coaching is not something he envisions for himself after retirement. "I don't know what I would like to do after I retire," Messi stated. "I wouldn't like to be a coach, but everything is not clear yet." His approach to life, emphasizing a day-by-day philosophy, suggests that he is focused on enjoying his remaining playing time rather than planning a specific career transition.

While coaching isn't appealing to Messi, he hasn't entirely dismissed the idea of remaining involved in football. In previous discussions, he hinted at a potential interest in roles such as a sporting director, indicating a desire to stay connected to the sport in some capacity. He expressed enjoyment in mentoring young players and contributing to football, saying, "I like everything related to football. I like being with kids, teaching, and also maybe being a sporting director." This openness to different roles suggests that while coaching may not be in his future, Messi still envisions ways to influence the game he loves.
