U-17 Asian Cup Draw Seedings
The seeding for the Round of 16 in this tournament is as follows:
Pot 1:Saudi Arabia (seeded team), Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan;
Pot 2:Iran, Yemen, Australia, Thailand;
Pot 3:Afghanistan, Tajikistan, China, Vietnam;
Pot 4:Indonesia, Oman, UAE, North Korea.
According to the AFC’s arrangements, the group draw for the final stage will take place on December 9. The final stage of the tournament is scheduled for April 3-20 in Saudi Arabia. According to FIFA and AFC guidelines, starting next year, the FIFA U-17 World Cup will be held annually and will expand to 48 teams, with Asia allotted 8 spots. As a result, the top eight teams in next year’s U-17 Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia will automatically qualify for the U-17 World Cup to be held in Qatar at the end of the year. Host Qatar will qualify directly without occupying one of Asia’s 8 slots.
This means that if the Chinese U-17 team reaches the top two in their group and advances to the knockout stage of next year’s U-17 Asia Cup, they will qualify for the U-17 World Cup for the first time in 20 years. The last time China participated in the U-17 World Cup was with the 1988-born team, featuring current national team goalkeeper Wang Dalei and member of the U-17 coaching staff, Li Zhuangfei. At that time, China earned its spot as Asia's champion and ultimately finished 7th in the World Cup, marking the best-ever international finish for Chinese men’s football.
